Add Lip volume with hyaluronan
Back to treatmentsLip filler treatment and contouring with hyaluronan
Symmetrically curved, full lips with clear contours are signs of sensuality and attractiveness in both women and men. With advancing age, the lips tend to become thinner and the lip borders gradually blur.
Aesthetic lip filler treatments include the enhancement of lip contours, lip sculpting, and the gentle augmentation of lip volume using hyaluronan. In the latter, the focus is placed on achieving a balanced and natural appearance of the lips rather than solely increasing their size. The primary objective is to restore and harmonize the lips. Lip sculpting, while adhering to the existing anatomy, yields a more natural result.
More and more people are expressing the desire for lip injections, both in Switzerland and elsewhere. This minimally invasive procedure, often referred to as lip fillers, is an excellent option to enhance lip volume without the need for surgery. Unfortunately, images featuring excessively large lips on social media send misleading signals and promote a distorted perception of femininity and attractiveness. The crucial factor is to enhance the lips while maintaining their natural appearance.
What is hyaluronan?
Hyaluronic acid, often referred to as Hyaluronan, is a natural component of the connective tissue found in the skin and various other body tissues, such as joint fluid, cartilage and the vitreous body of the eye. Because it is a natural substance produced by the body, it is very well-tolerated. Prior to hyaluronic acid treatment, there is no need for an allergy test. Hyaluronan has a high water-binding capacity, providing the skin with moisture and contributing to its firmness. Over time, the body's own production of hyaluronic acid decreases, leading to a loss of skin elasticity and support. Hyaluronic acid can be introduced from the outside to fill and soften facial lines, wrinkles, contour defects or restore volume.
How is hyaluronan used on lips?
Hyaluronan gel is a filler substance that is injected into the skin or the upper layers of connective tissue. Fine injection needles or blunt microcannulas are utilized for this purpose. You can envision the latter as a form of micro-keyhole technique. Because the very fine cannula has a rounded and blunt tip, it is an extremely tissue-preserving method with minimal potential for side effects. Additionally, several regions can be treated from a single entry-point, which is particularly advantageous for combination treatments. The specific approach used depends on the initial assessment, the treated area, and the doctor's options.
Moreover, it is possible to treat both the upper and lower lips through a single entry point, which is particularly advantageous for combination treatments. The treatment method chosen depends on the initial assessment, the areas being treated, and the available options for the doctor.
How long does the hyaluronan effect last?
Experience shows that the degradation process is faster in the initial treatment compared to subsequent treatments. In most cases, the resuluts after the initial treatment last for 6 to 10 months. However, due to remodeling processes in the connective tissue, a longer-lasting result can also occur right from the beginning.
How painful is a lip filler with hyaluronan?
The treatment is almost painless, thanks to an anaesthetic technique developed in-house. Alternatively, a potent anaesthetic cream can be applied instead.
Risks and side effects
Increasing lip volume without surgery usually only comes with minor side effects. The first one to mention is swelling, which usually subsides within 24 to 48 hours. In some cases, it may persist for a bit longer, around 3 to 5 days, although this is rare when using gentle treatment techniques and applying moderate volume. If significant swelling occurs immediately after the treatment, the lip can be cooled with an ice pack to help control the swelling. The hyaluronan gel is administered relatively superficially, which can sometimes lead to the formation of small, soft nodules in the inner (non-visible) area of the lips. These can usually be massaged away or treated using other methods.
Follow-up and post-treatment
We recommend a follow-up appointment two weeks after the initial treatment. If a follow-up treatment is necessary, there will be no additional costs.
Post-procedure restrictions
Since swelling after the treatment is generally moderate, you should be socially presentable and able to return to work the next day. If you experience significant swelling, it's advisable to avoid sports, saunas, spa visits, and massages during this time. Minor bruises can usually be concealed with makeup. For more pronounced bruises, the application of a heparin cream is recommended to facilitate faster absorption.
Pre-procedure preparation
For hygiene reasons, please refrain from wearing makeup, creams, or powder prior to the treatment. Additionally, inform us if you have taken any blood-thinning medications or similar substances in the last 10 days.
